Chapter History
Since its founding 1945, Boston Alumnae Chapter has served the Greater Boston Community in many capacities. We have sponsored an enormous variety of public service programs in the Boston area. Of the many projects and programs the longest are Project Homeless (1945) with the Pine Street Inn and Jabberwock, a scholarship pageant.
Other projects have included: Heal the Mind, Restore the Spirit, a discussion on Black Women and Depression done in conjunction with the Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts, Mother's Day in the Park, an outdoor activity for underprivileged South End neighborhood mothers; a photographic exhibit co-sponsorship with Pepsi Company of the Field to Factory, commemorating the great migration of Blacks from the rural south to the north; The Betty Shabazz Delta Academy, which provided mentoring and academic aid to middle-school girls; and The Solomon Carter Fuller Mental Health Center at the Boston Medical Center, which was an outgrowth of a Boston Alumnae Mental Health Project.
Our current public service projects include Project Homeless, Delta GEMS for girls 14-18 years old, Afternoon of African American Culture for Children, and Delta Day at the State Capital. As you can see from this short list of programming, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, Boston Alumnae Chapter arduously continues to empower the communities of Boston through committed service.
